Wintergreen Oil

(Vernacular name: Machhino, Dhasingre. Botanical name: Gaultheria fr agrantissima Wall).

It is a native of the Himalayas and is distributed in central and eastern regions of Nepal ranging between 1100-2800m. Parts used: Leaves.
Active constituents: Mainly Methyl salicylate.

Uses:

a) As a flavoring agent in confectionery industry and in soft drinks.
b) In perfumery industry.
c) In aromatherapy: antiseptic, anti-rheumatic.
